Cambridge Who's Who Honors Bassima Sukkarieh Eid

Retired educator, Bassima Sukkarieh Eid lends translation prowess to the United Nations Development Program

BROOKLYN, NY, November 1, 2009 /Journalism and Writing PR News/ -- Bassima Sukkarieh Eid, Retired Sociology Professor and Adjunct Lecturer from the Lebanese University and the American University of Beirut, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.

Former educator, Bassima Sukkarieh Eid gained nearly 50 years of professional experience prior to her retirement. During her tenure with the Lebanese University, Ms. Eid taught students the fundamentals of sociology and social research. Fascinated by the study of human social action, she expertly educated her students regarding the social rules and processes that bind and separate people, not only as individuals but as groups, communities and institutions. A published scholar, Ms. Eid penned several books including "Sociology of Mass Communication," "Communication Policies in Lebanon," and "Introductory Sociology." All of her works have been published in Arabic excluding the English text, "Teaching Journalistic English."

Although she is retired, Ms. Eid has no intentions to rest on her laurels. In fact, she is an accomplished Arabic translator and works closely with United Nations Development Program. She also lends her translation prowess to a variety of high-profile publications including Readers Digest. Ms. Eid is currently in the process of composing a textbook regarding English and Arabic translation, which she hopes will be utilized by colleges and universities that offer translation courses and degrees.

In recognition of her efforts in the field of education, Ms. Eid was presented with a medal of recognition by the Lebanese University in 1997. She completed her doctorate at Saint Joseph University, Beirut in 1975 and holds a master's degree in sociology and social research as well as a master's degree in teaching English as a foreign language from the American University of Beirut. Looking to the future, Ms. Eid intends to continue providing organizations with translation services and of course, enjoy her well-deserved retirement.
